Support Groups
The importance of a positive emotional approach to fighting cancer cannot be overstated. Support groups and other programs offered by the Frankford Hospital Cancer Center help cultivate that positive approach for both patients and their families.
Open to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and their adult family members, Frankford's General Cancer Support Group is an open-forum allowing participants to voice their thoughts, concerns, and questions about cancer and any related issues. The group is facilitated by our dedicated GPCHS employees, including oncology-certified nurses. This group meets from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST on the second Tuesday of each month.
Dear Friends is a general support group for cancer patients only, whether currently undergoing or finished with their treatments. Dear Friends meets from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST on the third Monday of each month at the Cancer Resource Center.
A bereavement education and support group, for surviving loved ones, meets weekly for eight weeks. From Grief to Healing convenes at the Cancer Resource Center Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST. A new group forms every ten weeks.
A variety of specialized programs occurs regularly at the Cancer Resource Center. Among them are Adjusting to a New Diagnosis, Issues for Caregivers, and Look Good, Feel Better®. The Resource Center's oncology social worker is available to refer patients to these and a host of other community-based programs.
